Nanga Mai Awards nominations are closing soon

We're celebrating excellence in Aboriginal education with the NSW Department of Education's 17th Annual Nanga Mai Awards.

Do you know someone who’s made a positive impact on Aboriginal education at your school? Recognise and celebrate their achievements by nominating them in our 17th annual Nanga Mai Awards.

Who can be nominated?

  • Aboriginal students

  • Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal teachers

  • staff in the NSW Department of Education

  • community members and

  • NSW public schools.

What are the Award categories?

  • Student - All Round Student, Academic Excellence, Student Leadership, Public Speaking, Performing/Creative/Visual Arts, Sport, SBAT & VET Student of the Year.

  • Staff - Outstanding Contribution by an Aboriginal Staff Member and non-Aboriginal Staff Member, Outstanding Leadership in Aboriginal Education and Leadership in Languages.

  • School Community - Outstanding Aboriginal Community Member, Outstanding School and Community Partnership, Outstanding Commitment to Increasing Knowledge and Understanding of Aboriginal Histories, Culture and Experiences of Aboriginal People.

Who can nominate?

Families and community members can submit a nomination with endorsement from your school’s principal, local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and anyone employed by the NSW Department of Education.

The awards ceremony is set to take place at the Sydney Opera House in November, with student performances from across NSW. 

Nominations close on Monday 5 September 2022.
